Restaurant Menus FAQs

What paper stock should I choose for menus that get handled a lot?

For durable dine-in menus, pick 14 pt or 16 pt cardstock (about 300–350 gsm). Add Gloss or High Gloss UV for extra scuff and moisture resistance. Use 100 lb paper or 70 lb uncoated only for lighter, disposable, or insert-style menus.

Are these menus waterproof, and can I wipe them clean?

They’re water-resistant, not waterproof. High Gloss UV (both sides or front only) is the most wipe-friendly; it withstands a damp cloth and mild cleaners. Avoid soaking and strong solvents. Uncoated stocks absorb moisture and are not ideal for frequent wiping.

Which sizes can I tri-fold or accordion-fold?

Tri (letter), Z, accordion, and half folds are available on most sizes except 5.5″ x 8.5″ and 11″ x 17″. The 4.25″ x 11″ size offers half-fold only. 11″ x 17″ is listed as no folding. If you need a specific fold, choose a size with “Folding All Sizes” options enabled.

What’s the difference between Gloss, Matte, and High Gloss UV coatings?

Gloss: smooth, vibrant color, moderate shine. Matte: low glare, easier to read, softer look. High Gloss UV: very shiny, highest abrasion and spill resistance; available front-only or both sides on cardstocks and both sides on 100 lb paper.

Will the print crack on the fold, and do you score heavier stocks?

Heavier papers (100 lb+ and cardstocks) are scored before folding to minimize cracking. To reduce visible cracking, avoid heavy ink coverage across fold lines and consider Matte (less noticeable) instead of very high-shine UV at the fold.

Can I write on the menus for daily specials?

Yes on uncoated stocks: 70 lb uncoated or 14 pt uncoated accept pen and pencil. Gloss, Matte, and especially High Gloss UV surfaces are not suitable for writing or stamping.

What file setup do you need for print-ready menus?

Supply CMYK, 300 dpi PDFs with 0.125″ bleed on all sides and a 0.125″ safe margin inside. Flatten transparencies, embed/outline fonts, and export one file per side (single- or double-sided). Keep critical text away from fold lines.

How fast can you produce menus, and what affects turnaround?

Turnaround options include Same Day, Next Business Day, and 5 Business Days. Availability depends on quantity, finishing (UV coating and folding can add time), and timely, error-free file approval. Large runs or complex folds may require longer.
