Product Description

1800-Printing offers nothing but exceptional booklet printing with several options to choose from. Print booklets in four different paper types depending on your preference. Different binding options are available too. Choose between saddle stitch binding and wire-o binding for your binding option. If you need to print booklets right away, you may choose same day printing option for faster turn around time.

Saddle stitch binding is a type of booklet binding method wherein the pages of the booklet are folded one inside the other to create a less bulky and more professional booklet. This binding method makes a lighter and easier to carry booklet. Wire-O Binding, also known as wire binding is a booklet binding method that uses wires to put pages together. The wire that binds the pages of the booklet makes a more durable booklet compared to other binding methods.

Compliance & Technical Standards for Booklets

Material & Process Compliance

  • Paper Stocks: Interior pages printed on coated or uncoated text weights ranging from 80gsm to 170gsm; covers produced on heavier 200–350gsm card. All paper substrates comply with ISO 9706 permanence and ISO 536 grammage standards.
  • Printing Method: Offset lithographic or high-resolution digital printing using CMYK inks conforming to ISO 2846-1 colorant specifications and ISO 12647-2 process control tolerances (ΔE2000 < 3.0 across spreads).
  • Binding: Saddle stitch, perfect bind, or wire-o bound depending on page count and specification. Adhesives used in perfect binding conform to EN 923:2015 polymer safety definitions and are solvent-free EVA or PUR-based compounds.
  • Finishing: Optional matte, gloss, or soft-touch lamination films applied under ISO 2836 rub-resistance testing standards. UV spot coatings and foil applications performed on request using RoHS-compliant materials.
  • Compliance: All production materials certified under REACH (EC 1907/2006) and RoHS (2011/65/EU). No lead, cadmium, or mercury-based pigments or binders used.
  • Sourcing: FSC® or PEFC-certified paper options available; all mills supply chain-traceable under ISO 14001 environmental management systems.

Environmental & Safety Disclosures

  • Material Safety: All inks and coatings are low-VOC, heavy-metal-free, and compliant with current EU and US safety directives.
  • Energy & Waste: Printing operations utilize closed-loop water and chemical recycling; paper waste recycled through licensed recovery facilities.
  • Recyclability: Finished publications are fully recyclable in mixed-paper waste streams; avoid lamination on entire covers for improved recyclability.
  • Packaging: Bulk shipments packed in recyclable corrugated cartons or kraft-wrapped bundles; plastic wrapping minimized.

Quality Assurance & Color Management

  • Color Control: Presses calibrated using spectrophotometric measurement devices with G7® or ISO-aligned color curves to maintain tonal consistency across signatures.
  • Proofing: Digital PDF soft proofs provided for every job; hard-copy proofs available on request calibrated to FOGRA39/51 profiles.
  • Inspection: Random page pulls during press run for density, registration, and trapping accuracy; post-bind QC for trim and pagination order.
  • Traceability: Each production batch tagged with job ID, press unit, paper lot, and operator log for audit trace.

File Preparation Alignment

  • Bleed: Minimum 3 mm (0.125") bleed on all sides; safe zone inset 3 mm from trim.
  • Resolution: 300 dpi for raster elements; vector text and graphics recommended.
  • Color Space: CMYK only; FOGRA39 or FOGRA51 profile preferred for coated papers.
  • Pagination & Spine Setup: Provide single-page PDF layout in correct order; do not supply spreads unless specified for saddle-stitch layout.

Booklets FAQs

What booklet sizes and page counts can you produce, and how are pages counted?

Sizes include 4" x 9", 4.75" x 4.75", 5.5" x 8.5", 6" x 6", 6" x 9", 6" x 10.5", 8.5" x 11", 9" x 12", and 12" x 12". Page counts run from 8 to 96 pages in 4‑page increments. Page count includes the cover (e.g., “8 pages” = cover + 4 inside pages). Saddle stitching requires page counts divisible by 4. Choose Left Edge or Top Edge binding to set reading orientation.

What paper stocks are available for inside pages vs. covers?

Inside pages: 70 lb Uncoated, 80 lb Text, 100 lb Text, or 10 pt Cardstock. Covers (separate, heavier options): 10 pt Gloss, 14 pt Gloss, or 14 pt Matte cardstock. A common pairing is 80–100 lb text inside with 10–14 pt cover for durability and a professional feel.

Which coatings and UV finishes can I choose, and where do they apply?

Text stocks can be finished Gloss Both Sides or Matte Both Sides (some options add High Gloss UV Both Sides). Covers can be Gloss or Matte, with optional High Gloss UV Both Sides or High Gloss UV Front with Gloss Back. Available finishes vary by the paper selected; UV adds a harder, shinier, more scratch‑resistant surface.

How are these booklets bound, and what are the limits?

We use saddle stitching (metal wire staples through the fold). It’s ideal up to 96 pages. We account for “creep” and trim so the edges stay even. Select Left Edge or Top Edge binding to match how the booklet opens.

Can you drill holes or add tabs for mailing or storage?

Yes. Hole drilling: single or three holes in 3/16", 1/4", or 5/6" diameters with locations like Top Center/Left/Right or Left Side (middle/bottom). Tabbing: single, double, or triple tabs available. For postal compliance (e.g., self‑mailers), confirm required tab count/placement for your route.

Is printing full color throughout, and what are the turnaround and quantities?

Printing is full color on both sides throughout (process CMYK). Turnaround options are Next Business Day or 3 Business Days. Quantities range from 25 to 10,000, suitable for short runs or large distributions.
