Hard Suede Business Cards FAQs
What is “Hard Suede” stock and how thick is 30 pt?
It’s a rigid 30 pt (about 0.03") premium card stock with a soft, matte suede surface. You can choose solid Black or White, or Duplex boards (Black/White or Red/White) that are laminated for a two-tone look.
Which sizes are available and how should I set up bleed and safety?
Choose 3.5" x 2" (US standard), 3.5" x 1.75", or 2" x 2". Supply 0.125" bleed on all sides and keep critical text/logos 0.125" inside the trim (larger if die cutting).
What’s the difference between emboss and deboss on this thick stock?
Emboss raises artwork; deboss presses it in. On 30 pt, relief is crisp but very fine detail may soften. Provide vector art; avoid hairline elements; two-sided options are available but deep impressions can ghost on the opposite side.
How does thermography work with the suede finish?
Thermography (raised ink) is offered on one side. It adheres well to the suede surface for tactile text/logos. Use spot areas, not full floods, and maintain clean, medium-weight linework for best elevation.
Can I get a custom shape, and what counts as simple vs. complex die cut?
Yes. Simple = basic contours (rounded corners, gentle curves). Complex = tight curves, small cut-ins, or multiple interior holes. Allow minimum 1/16" (1.6 mm) corner radius and avoid ultra-thin protrusions that can snag.
Is edge paint compatible with duplex and colored stocks?
Yes. Edge paint is applied after trimming and works on solid Black/White and duplex boards. High-contrast colors are most visible; micro speckling is normal on fibrous edges. Keep art clear of edges to prevent ink wicking.
Will these cards fit standard wallets and card holders?
Yes, the footprint is standard, but at 30 pt they’re noticeably thicker. They fit most wallets and cases; very tight sleeve-style holders may be snug, especially with die cuts or heavy embossing.
Are they easy to write on, and do QR codes scan well?
The suede surface is low-glare, so QR codes print and scan reliably when high-contrast and ≥0.8" wide. Writing is possible with paint or gel markers; ballpoints may skip. If writeability is critical, leave a non-finished area on one side.
How should I prepare files for emboss/deboss, die cuts, and edge-safe design?
Provide vector paths for emboss/deboss and die cuts as 100% solid spot colors on separate layers; no gradients. Minimum line weight 0.5 pt; text ≥7 pt. Keep critical elements 0.125" from trim and 0.25" from die-cut edges.
