Triplex Business Cards FAQs
What exactly is a triplex business card and how thick is 30 pt?
Triplex means three paper sheets laminated together with a colored core; these are 30 pt thick (about 0.030" or ~0.76 mm), giving a rigid, premium feel and a visible color stripe through the edge.
Can you print effectively on black triplex stock?
Yes, letterpress inks work best when specified as opaque/spot colors and kept high-contrast on black. Metallic or very light inks stand out; subtle tints can get lost on dark stock.
What sizes and layer color combos are available?
The standard size is 3.5" x 2". Layer options include 30 pt Black/Orange/Black, Black/Red/Black, Black/White/Black, plus custom triplex color builds on request.
How does the letterpress option work on these cards?
Letterpress is available on the front in 1–3 spot colors. Each color is a separate plate; solid shapes and vector line art deboss cleanly on thick stock. Fine type below ~6 pt or large solids with tiny knockouts are discouraged.
What’s the difference between simple and complex die cuts?
Simple shapes are basic outlines with gentle curves and few corners (e.g., rounded square, circle). Complex shapes have tight radii, many points, or interior cutouts. Provide a vector cut path on its own layer.
Can I add thermography or edge painting to triplex cards?
Yes. Thermography (raised ink) is available 1-sided and pairs well with uncoated triplex faces; avoid ultra-fine hairlines. Edge painting coats all four edges and is especially striking with a contrasting color against the triplex core.
How should I set up files for multi-color letterpress and die cutting?
Supply print-ready PDFs with 0.125" bleed and 0.125" safe margins. Use separate spot colors for each letterpress color (labeled clearly), and a 100% spot-color vector layer named “DIE CUT” set to overprint for the shape.
What quantities can I order and do options vary by run size?
Quantities are 250, 500, or 1000. Letterpress and die-cut options are shown per quantity tier, and you can also add 1-sided thermography and edge paint regardless of run size. Front and back files can be uploaded separately.
