Compliance & Technical Standards for Epoxy Metal Cards

Material & Process Compliance

  • Base Material: High-grade PVC or PETG core laminated under ISO 7810 ID-1 card dimensions (85.60 × 53.98 mm).
  • Surface Finish: Dual-layer epoxy dome coating, optically clear polyurethane or UV-stable resin, cured to Shore D ≈ 70 hardness for long-term clarity.
  • Ink Systems: Printed using UV-cured CMYK inks conforming to ISO 2846-1 for colorant characteristics; production alignment per ISO 12647-2 process control where applicable.
  • Adhesion & Lamination: Multi-layer lamination bonded under 120–130°C and 1.5–2.0 MPa pressure; cross-hatch adhesion verified to ISO 2409 equivalent standards.
  • Chemical Compliance: All materials REACH (EC 1907/2006) and RoHS (2011/65/EU) compliant; no intentionally added lead, cadmium, or mercury compounds.
  • Epoxy Resin Stability: Formulation tested for non-yellowing under accelerated UV exposure (ASTM G154 Cycle 1 reference).

Dimensional & Build Standards

Attribute Nominal Tolerance Notes
Card Size 85.6 × 54 mm ±0.50 mm Standard CR-80 ID-1 format
Thickness 0.76 mm core (approx. 1.2 mm incl. epoxy) ±0.10 mm Varies with dome thickness
Corner Radius 3.0 mm ±0.30 mm Rounded for safe handling
Print Resolution 1440 dpi UV flatbed ±0.05 mm registration Alignment between print and dome boundary
Epoxy Dome Thickness 0.25–0.35 mm ±0.05 mm Measured at dome apex

Environmental & Safety Disclosures

  • Material Safety: Epoxy and UV-ink systems are free from phthalates and heavy metals; production under controlled ventilation per occupational safety standards.
  • Volatile Organic Compounds: UV-curable inks yield near-zero VOC emissions; no solvent off-gassing after curing.
  • Recyclability: Core PVC and PETG layers are recyclable through Category 3 (PVC) and 1 (PETG) plastic recovery streams; epoxy layer non-hazardous when cured.
  • Packaging: Recyclable cartons and paper interleaves used for all shipments; minimal plastic wrapping.
  • User Handling: Rounded corners prevent edge chipping; epoxy fully cured before shipment to eliminate surface tack.

Quality Assurance & Color Management

  • Calibration: UV printers profiled with spectrophotometric calibration achieving ΔE2000 < 2.5 for Pantone-equivalent targets.
  • Proofing: Digital soft proofs provided; optional physical sample for color and gloss verification.
  • Inspection: 100% inspection for dust inclusions, dome edge uniformity, and bubble-free finish; sample retention for each production batch.
  • Traceability: Production logs maintained by job ID including substrate batch, resin lot, and press operator signature.

File Preparation Alignment

  • Artwork Size: 3 mm bleed on all sides; safe area inset = 3 mm inside final trim.
  • Resolution: Supply at 300 dpi or vector artwork; raster transparency not recommended under domed finish.
  • White Layers: For opaque backgrounds, include designated white-ink layer (“Spot White” channel).
  • Gloss/Matte Variance: Full-area epoxy yields high-gloss; partial doming available on request for tactile contrast.

Legal & Marking

All client artwork, logos, and regulated symbols reproduced only under client authorization. No compliance marks (e.g., CE, FCC) are added unless supplied as part of the approved design.

Epoxy Metal Cards FAQs

What size are your Epoxy Metal Cards?

CR80 (2.125" x 3.375"), the same footprint as a standard credit card with rounded corners to fit wallets and card holders.

What exactly is an “epoxy metal” card and how is the artwork applied?

A rigid metal core card (commonly stainless-style substrate) with your graphics printed and sealed under a clear epoxy resin layer. The epoxy dome adds high-gloss depth and protects the print from handling and moisture.

How durable is the epoxy finish in everyday use?

The epoxy layer is waterproof and highly scratch-resistant, ideal for frequent handoffs. It’s not scratch-proof, avoid abrasive cleaners and sharp metal-on-metal contact to maintain clarity and gloss.

What quantities and prices do you offer?

Available quantities and current pricing: 100 ($294), 200 ($588), 300 ($882), 400 ($1,176), 500 ($1,470), 1,000 ($2,350), 3,000 ($7,050). Pricing reflects one design and standard specs.

Is there a setup fee? What does it cover?

Yes, $130 per artwork. It covers prepress, plate/screen/tooling setup, and machine calibration for your specific design. New or revised designs require a new setup.

What’s the production turnaround?

10–14 business days after proof approval and payment for standard orders. Transit time is additional and depends on the shipping method and destination.

Can you print edge-to-edge and use metallic effects?

Yes. We print full-bleed under the epoxy. Designs can leverage the metal substrate for metallic accents by leaving areas unprinted; solid color areas print as opaque under the clear resin.

What artwork files and color specs should I send?

Vector PDF/AI/EPS preferred (fonts outlined); high‑res PNG/TIFF (300 dpi at size) also accepted. Supply colors in CMYK or note Pantone targets for close matching; the epoxy’s gloss can make colors appear slightly deeper.
